The Book of Revelation, a Bible Study
Start date:
September 8, 2013, Sunday Evenings beginning @ 6:00 PM
Conference Room, Education Building, PMUMC, 25 Wesley Rd, Peralta, NM
Several years ago, our
Sunday night Bible Study began our preparation for the study of
Revelation. We have examined Genesis, Daniel, John, Matthew,
Acts, Romans, 1 & 2 Corinthians, 1 & 2 Thessalonians,
Galatians, Ephesians, some of Ezekiel, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Malachi, and
Zechariah. The whole of the Bible is touched by the content and
subject matter of Revelation. Therefore, one cannot be overly
prepared to study it’s prophesy of Hope and promise of God’s
Justice.
For me, Revelation reveals
God and His never ending love for mankind. When you consider
the infinite warnings, prophesy, and pleadings to come to genuine
faith, God’s judgment should not be a surprise. When this
earth has vanished from existence, what memories would you expect God
to desire for His elect to remember? Those in hell’s torment
are reminded every day of their deliberate rejection of Christ.
After all, He left all sin unpunished for thousands of years before
bringing the New Covenant into being with Christ as its progenitor
(see, Romans 9:22-25).
God promised to never leave or forsake His true and faithful. Revelation
details how that promise is carried out along with the judgment for
sin. The final 7 years (Tribulation) are the most promising of
all prophesy for those who have genuine faith (see, Romans 11:26-32;
and, Revelation 17:12-14). Those who are blessed to be among
the faithful who overcome the anti-christ have great rewards to share
(Revelation 7:13-17).
Hope? Yes, the great
hope of all Christians is to see our Lord and Savior returning with
those faithful who have fallen asleep (died before). The Glory
of Heaven is beyond my capacity to assimilate its grandeur. How
do we understand that the living water will flow as a river down the
main street? Or, the streets paved with gold? Or, a place
of such peace and tranquility that there is no more pain, crying, or
distress? We understand very well the trials and tribulations
of every day earthly life. But, there is that day coming when
all will be made anew so that we dwell in the presence of God with
Christ as our savior and king forever. Can you imagine it?
For those who defy God and
reject Christ, the consequences are most severe. This occurs
for at least 2 reasons: 1) to offer the final gospel call to
salvation for those who will repent and receive Christ as Lord,
Master, and Savior; and, 2) for the elect to know without any further
doubt the absolute sovereignty of God. We can then enjoy
eternity without the struggle to acquire and maintain genuine faith.
Our Sanctification will mature into solid forever faith.
Sunday night was chosen
because it takes deliberate effort to get out and attend a Bible
Study at that time. We have consistently had great attendance.
We do take off for holidays. Please, everyone is welcome.
